Glass Fibre Flat Roofing

What jobs can glass fibre be used for?

Glass fibre can be used for virtually all flat roofs, new projects and replacement for existing felt roofs, ashfelt roofs, existing concrete roofs and lead roofs. It is also a very successful solution for 'FINLOC' style concrete gutters, always a troublesome system. We have treated many of these over the years and have always been 100% successful.

I have a felt flat roof that leaks, what will the job involve?

Most jobs fall into 2 categories, those that require the felt and existing decking to be removed, and those where the existing decking is still in good enough condition to not need removing, therefore allowing us to deck over this existing decking. Most jobs will be completed in 1 day, in most cases access to your property is not needed, so it is not a problem if you are not at home while we do the job.

How long does it last, and how long is the guarantee?

All our roofs come with a written 20 year guarantee. Our oldest roof is now over 20 years old, but the oldest roof that we know of is now 45 years old and still going strong.

What does a glass fibre system flat roof comprise of?

A glass fibre system flat roof is always applied to new, clean and most importantly dry decking. This will usually mean sterling board, otherwise known as OSB. This is the best material as a base for a GRP roof. Next, any pre-moulded edge trims are then fixed where needed.

We then cut and lay glass tape over the joints in the decking. The roof is then covered with 600gm chopped strand matt which is soaked in resin. This is rubbed to remove air bubbles and when this cures then bonds to the decking. Another coat of resin is then applied. When this has cured, we then apply the coloured top coat. This will be dark grey unless you request something else. A glass fibre roof does not need gravel on top and requires absolutely no maintenance.

Will I need to replace the guttering, fascias and soffits?

Although it is not a requirement to replace the guttering, fascias or soffits, many of our clients find that the overall finish is greatly improved when the guttering, fascias and soffits are replaced at the same time as the roof itself. This is because we replace these items with UPVC which is a more modern, attractive and longer lasting alternative to wood and cast iron.
